English-speaking lawyer in Israel: Gilad A. Ber, Attorney and Notary in Tel Aviv

Looking for an English-speaking lawyer in Israel who explains Israeli law in your own language, whether you are a new immigrant (oleh chadash), a resident or living abroad? I am Gilad A. Ber, attorney and notary in Tel Aviv. For more than twenty years I have been assisting English-speaking families and entrepreneurs with their real estate transactions, their inheritance matters and their notarial needs, in English and with no intermediary.

Why an English-speaking lawyer in Israel?

Israeli law works differently from what you know from home, and a word-for-word translation is not enough. In Israel, buying an apartment does not go through a title company or an escrow agent: each party is represented by its own lawyer. There is no estate tax, but nothing in an estate moves without an order from the Registrar of Inheritance. A large part of the land belongs to the State and is held under a long-term lease of 49 or 98 years. An English-speaking lawyer does more than translate: he explains what is different from what you are used to, and he keeps you from the classic mistakes of newcomers. With me, you read and understand what you sign.

My main areas of practice

  • Buying and selling an apartment in Israel: due diligence on the property, contract, taxes, registration at the Land Registry (Tabu), purchases off-plan, sales from abroad.
  • Rental agreement for an apartment: checking the property, negotiating or drafting the lease, guarantees, protection of tenant and landlord.
  • Wills and inheritance: drafting wills, inheritance and probate orders, estates spanning Israel and your home country.
  • Enduring power of attorney: deciding in advance who will decide for you and for your assets if you can no longer manage your own affairs (because of a physical or cognitive disability), without a court-appointed guardian.
  • Notary and certified translations: signatures, Hebrew-English translations, powers of attorney, affidavits, certified copies, apostille.
  • Embassies and paperwork abroad: documents for the US, UK, Canadian and other authorities, powers of attorney for use abroad, pensions, estates and property to handle in your home country from Israel.

Who I am

An English-speaking lawyer in Israel, member of the Israel Bar Association and a notary licensed by the Israeli Ministry of Justice, I run a law office at 90 HaHashmonaim Street, Tel Aviv, focused on real estate and land law, family law, inheritance law, enduring powers of attorney and notarial services. I work with my English-speaking clients in English: meetings, correspondence and explanations.

Before opening my own office, I worked as legal counsel in the management of one of the largest development and construction companies in Israel, and as legal counsel at the Israel Land Administration (today the Israel Land Authority, "Rami"). I therefore know from the inside the procedures that govern private land and State land, long-term leases and the acquisition of ownership. For years I have represented dozens of clients from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and South Africa, in Israel and abroad, in their civil matters: real estate, contracts, wills and inheritance, enduring powers of attorney, and paperwork with their embassies and home-country authorities.

How a first contact works

  1. You write to me through the form or on WhatsApp, in English.
  2. We go over your situation: what you want to do, the documents you have, the deadlines.
  3. I explain the steps and I quote my fees before starting. No hidden costs.
  4. I handle your file personally, from beginning to end. You have one point of contact.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in English?

Yes. English is my working language with my English-speaking clients: meetings, correspondence and explanations are in English. Documents intended for the Israeli authorities are drafted in Hebrew and I explain their content to you.

Do you take on clients who live abroad?

Yes. Many of my clients live in the United States, the United Kingdom or elsewhere and have a project, a property or an inheritance in Israel. We work remotely by video call and email, and a notarized power of attorney makes it possible to settle everything without you having to travel.

How are your fees set?

They depend on the nature of the matter: a flat fee for wills, enduring powers of attorney and most contracts, a percentage for real estate transactions, and for notarial acts the official tariff set by the Ministry of Justice, identical for every notary in Israel. The amount is quoted to you before any work begins.

My office also offers paid legal consultations.

Do you work outside Tel Aviv?

Yes. The office is in Tel Aviv, but an English-speaking lawyer in Israel has to be reachable everywhere: I handle matters throughout the country, in particular in Jerusalem, Ra'anana, Modi'in, Beit Shemesh, Netanya and Herzliya, where many English-speaking families live.
